Azure & App Engineering

Software built to ship, run, and last on Azure

Winmill takes custom software from the first idea to production on Azure and keeps it running: full stack development, minimum viable products (MVPs), delivery pipelines, and cloud migration, from a firm that has shipped enterprise software since 1994 and secures what it builds with its own cybersecurity practice.

What we do

Five services, one engineering team

Building the software, building the pipeline that ships it, and building the cloud it runs on are usually three vendors. At Winmill they’re one team, so the architecture decision, the deployment decision, and the cost decision get made together.

Custom Software Development

Full stack web, mobile, and API engineering with three decades of delivery behind it: front ends people want to use, back ends that hold up, and code in repositories under your own account.

Rapid Prototyping and MVP

Prove the product before you fund the platform. We put real software in front of real users fast, on the same production-grade architecture the full product will run on. Our fastest went from nothing to launch in 12 weeks.

DevOps and CI/CD Engineering

Continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines, infrastructure as code, and automated testing that make releasing boring, with a load test report your team can read before go-live.

Cloud Engineering

Strategy, modernization, and migration to Azure, with a roadmap before a single workload moves and observability and cost control designed in from day one. We leave you a system your team can operate.

Technologies and Tools

React, .NET, Node, and Python on Azure, with named versions and the architecture rules every build follows. Boring choices, deliberately, so your prototype and your product share one foundation.

How we build

Every build ships the same disciplined way

Fifty thousand firms build software. The difference is in the habits nobody sees in a demo. These are ours, on every engagement, and each one produces something you can hand to your own auditors.

Your repositories, your infrastructure as code

Source control in Git under your own accounts. Infrastructure defined in Bicep and deployed through Azure DevOps or GitHub, so the environment is reproducible and yours.

Tested before release, in writing

Load and stress testing with a staged concurrency ramp held at peak, producing a report covering requests served, rejected connections, and response times. Documented REST APIs to the OpenAPI standard. Versioned database migrations.

Secured by the same firm

Dynamic and static code scanning plus code review under a Secure DevOps methodology, run by Winmill’s in-house cybersecurity practice. Development happens against fictitious data; real data lives only in your production environment.

Why Winmill

Why enterprises choose Winmill to build

Anyone can show you a portfolio. What matters is who answers the phone at 2am, and whether the same people who wrote the code are still around to fix it.

Three decades of enterprise work

Winmill has built mission-critical software since 1994, including 44 of the Fortune 100, across banking, healthcare, benefit funds, education, and government.

We run what we build

Winmill operates its own production infrastructure in a SOC 1 and SOC 2 audited facility. We design software the way people who have to keep it running design it.

Security built in, not bolted on

Our cybersecurity practice is in house and led by CISSP and CISA certified staff. It scans and reviews the code we write before your users ever see it.

Fast where it counts

An AI-powered MVP in 12 weeks. A deprecated mobile app rebuilt in React in six months, on schedule. Speed that comes from repeatable architecture, not from shortcuts.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What does Winmill’s Azure and app engineering practice cover?

Five connected services: custom software development, rapid prototyping and MVPs, DevOps and CI/CD engineering, cloud engineering and migration to Azure, and the technology stack that ties them together. One engineering team handles all five, so the software, the pipeline that ships it, and the cloud it runs on are designed together.

Where should we start?

If you’re proving a product, start with an MVP: real software in front of real users on production-grade architecture. If you already have software and releases hurt, start with the delivery pipeline. If your infrastructure is the problem, start with a cloud roadmap before any workload moves. Each first step has a fixed price and dated milestones.

Do you build in our environment or yours?

Yours. Source code lives in Git repositories under your own accounts, infrastructure is defined as code in your Azure tenancy, and development runs against fictitious data of identical structure. Real data exists only in your production environment. When the engagement ends, everything is already yours.

How do you keep projects on budget?

Every proposal states an estimate and a not to exceed figure, with conditional dated milestones and a written rationale for any buffer. Where scope allows we work fixed price. You know the ceiling before you sign, and you see the burn against it in every sprint review.

What do we receive besides working software?

Documentation your own team and auditors can use: a target architecture, REST APIs documented to the OpenAPI standard, versioned database migrations, and a load and stress test report covering requests served, rejected connections, and response times at peak. If you’re answering a procurement, these are the artifacts it asks for.
