Challenge

This insurance company selected Clarity to replace two legacy systems in order to have a single system of record for Project Portfolio Management, Project Management, Project Forecasting and Project Budgeting.

Solution

CA and WinMill worked together to implement a phased solution. Stage One involved implementation of Program and Project Management, with a unique security model configuration. The client was actively involved in this process, ensuring their buy-in from day one.

Stage Two included building interfaces from legacy systems and other core systems of record, in preparation for forecasting and budgeting. These two functions were implemented in Stage Three. To date the following modules have been implemented: Project Management (including Forecasting/Budgeting and Actual Hours/ Cost); Portfolio Management; Programs; Applications. The application supports 2500 projects, 45,000 resources and 1,500 concurrent users.

Highlights

This client was one of the first companies to upgrade to the latest version of Clarity, adding a level of complexity to the overall plan of development for new functionality. The project team worked closely with CA Support and CA Development to resolve issues with interfaces, XOG and abstract objects. Timely resolution of these issues was critical to the client, and invaluable to CA in stabilizing this version for other clients.

WinMill was involved in many roles on this project, with our main focus being the upgrade and the design and development of a flexible architecture for Clarity interfaces. The architecture, which supports more than ten (10) interfaces, uses a small number of custom components to create the interface records, load source data, create an XML file for the Clarity data load, and provide data cleanup services.
